Waqf Bill Introduced to Mask Govt Failures: Akhilesh Yadav

Akhilesh Yadav criticizes BJP’s internal leadership disputes

Questions coherence of “Unified Waqf Management” concept

Demands transparency over Kumbh casualties and China’s territorial claims

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav fiercely criticized the government during the debate on the Waqf Board Amendment Bill 2025 in Lok Sabha, alleging that its introduction aimed to divert attention from core issues and cover up government failures. He questioned the essence of terms like “Unified Waqf Management,” arguing that its meaning remained unclear irrespective of the language used.

Yadav further accused the BJP, despite its stature as the world's largest political party, of grappling with internal leadership issues and struggling to elect a party president. Union Home Minister Amit Shah countered by highlighting the BJP’s extensive membership, asserting that the process of electing its leader naturally required more time.

The SP chief condemned the intertwining of religious matters with commerce, citing the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s frequent reference to exaggerated figures related to the Kumbh preparations. He demanded transparency regarding the reported loss of 30 lives during the Maha Kumbh and called for a detailed list of casualties.

Additionally, Yadav questioned the government's claim that Defence and Railway lands were immune to sale and emphasized concerns over Chinese encroachments in certain areas. He accused the government of crafting the Bill to suppress such pressing inquiries.

Reflecting on recent Eid celebrations, Yadav expressed concern over unexplained restrictions and criticized attempts to conflate religion with political objectives. He concluded his remarks by urging the administration to prioritize accountability, inclusivity, and transparency rather than diverting attention through new legislation.
