The 32-year-old forward, known for her speed and resilience, became the first Indian woman to play over 300 games for the national team.
Hailing from a humble background in Haridwar, Vandana defied social barriers and battled health challenges such as anaemia and depression to establish herself as one of the most prolific forwards in Indian hockey. Her hat-trick against South Africa at the Tokyo Olympics, which helped India reach the semifinals and finish a memorable fourth, remains a defining moment in her career.
