SC Publishes Report on Delhi High Court Judge’s Cash Row
Supreme Court uploads full report for transparency
Justice Yashwant Varma denies allegations, calls it a conspiracy
Fire incident at residence storeroom linked to controversy
In an unprecedented move, the Supreme Court has made public the report on the alleged discovery of a cash stash at the residence of Delhi High Court judge, Justice Yashwant Varma. The report, submitted by Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya, includes images, videos, and Justice Varma’s detailed response to the allegations.
Justice Varma has strongly refuted claims that a large sum of money was found at his home, calling it a conspiracy to malign him. He clarified that the fire broke out in a storeroom near the staff quarters, which is commonly used for storage and is accessible to multiple people. He and his wife were in Bhopal at the time of the incident, with only his daughter and mother present at home.
Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, after consulting senior collegium judges, decided to publish the report to counter misinformation. The Supreme Court also stated that Justice Varma’s transfer to the Allahabad High Court was unrelated to this controversy.
Meanwhile, senior advocate Harish Salve raised concerns about the handling of the case, citing the Delhi Fire Department’s statement that no cash was found at the premises. As the inquiry continues, the judiciary remains focused on maintaining transparency and upholding its integrity.
