WHY THIS SITUATION @ PITHAPURAM

Ex-MLA SVSN Varma’s silence fuels speculation in Pithapuram

Tensions rise as Varma counters Janasena’s grip in the constituency

Internal rifts in JSP offer Varma fresh political leverage

Uncertainty continues to dominate the political climate in Pithapuram, the constituency now represented by JanaSena Party Chief Pawan Kalyan. At the center of this turmoil is former MLA SVSN Varma—known for his calculated moves and cryptic silence.

Varma, once a TDP aspirant, won the Pithapuram seat in 2014 as an independent with indirect support from JanaSena and the backing of dominant Kapu voters. However, his political trajectory has been far from stable—defeated in both 2009 and 2019, and now sidelined with Pawan Kalyan contesting from the same seat in 2024.

When TDP appointed Uday as the in-charge of Pithapuram, Varma distanced himself, declaring publicly that he would contest only if Pawan wasn't the candidate. However, following the official announcement of Kalyan’s candidature, Varma’s silent opposition reportedly turned into covert disruption, instigating dissent and indirectly challenging the JSP narrative.

The intervention of TDP Chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, who assured Varma of future opportunities, seemed to calm tensions briefly. But Varma, disappointed by diminishing prospects, is said to be actively trying to regain influence, even at the cost of damaging Pawan Kalyan’s image.

A speech by Nagababu, Pawan Kalyan’s brother, at the JSP anniversary event appears to have triggered further unrest, with Varma’s supporters allegedly creating disturbances during subsequent party events. Interestingly, Nagababu maintained a composed stance during his later visit, signaling a more strategic response from the party.

Adding fuel to the fire are internal frictions within JSP. Local complaints target constituency in-charge Marreddy Srinivas Reddy and his deputy Hari Prasad, both seen as ineffective. This has created a vacuum that Varma is reportedly trying to exploit by aligning with discontented JSP factions.

With both power struggles and political strategies at play, all eyes are now on how Janasena manages this critical internal challenge in Pithapuram.
