Akshay Kumar urges viewers to keep phones away during ‘Kesari 2’ screening
Akshay Kumar asks audience to focus on dialogues, not Instagram
Special screening in Delhi attended by CM Rekha Gupta, Anurag Thakur, and others
Film highlights Jallianwala Bagh tragedy and forgotten heroes of India’s freedom struggle
Ahead of its theatrical release, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar made a heartfelt request during the special screening of Kesari: Chapter 2 in Delhi on April 15. Addressing the audience, Kumar urged them to keep their phones in their pockets and avoid distractions during the screening, emphasizing the importance of every dialogue in the film.
“I humbly request you all to please keep your phones in your pockets and listen to every dialogue of this film. It will mean a lot. If you try to check your Instagram during the movie, it will be a humiliation for the film,” he said.
The premiere, held at a theatre in Chanakyapuri, saw the presence of key dignitaries including Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and Union Minister Anurag Thakur. Akshay Kumar and actor R. Madhavan welcomed the guests at the screening, which celebrated the courage of unsung heroes.
Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa shared visuals from the screening on social media and lauded the film, calling it a “powerful tribute to the heroes of Jallianwala Bagh.” He praised Akshay and Madhavan for portraying the bravery of Adv. Sankaran Nair, who stood up to British rule.
Sirsa went further, drawing a sharp parallel between British colonial atrocities and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, claiming Congress echoed the same brutal mindset. He accused the party of siding with British oppressors and silencing freedom fighters, and labeled the 1984 violence as a “state-backed genocide.”
Kesari: Chapter 2, presented as a continuation of patriotic storytelling, explores the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and the struggle for justice. The film is scheduled to release nationwide on April 18.
