DCA Raids Quack Clinic in Mulugu, Seizes Unlicensed Medicines
Unqualified practitioner Gadam Manoj caught storing 35 varieties of medicines without drug license
Antibiotics, steroids, and physician samples seized during raid in Medaram village
DCA warns of severe health risks from misuse of medicines by unauthorized individuals
In a crackdown on unauthorized medical practices, officials from the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) raided the clinic of an unqualified practitioner, Gadam Manoj, in Medaram village, Tadvai mandal, Mulugu district, and seized a significant quantity of unlicensed medicines.
The raid, conducted on wednesday based on specific intelligence, revealed 35 different varieties of drugs—including antibiotics, steroids, analgesics, and physician’s samples—stored without a valid drug license. Medicines worth Rs 18,000 were confiscated from the premises.
Among the antibiotics found were Cefixime, Cefpodoxime, and Amoxycillin, while the presence of the potent steroid Dexamethasone raised further alarm. DCA Director General V.B. Kamalasan Reddy expressed serious concern, stating that the indiscriminate distribution of antibiotics by unqualified individuals could lead to antimicrobial resistance (AMR)—a growing threat to public health.
He added that misuse of steroids like Dexamethasone could cause immune suppression, hormonal imbalance, cardiovascular issues, and mental health problems. “Such irresponsible practices put lives at risk and must be dealt with firmly,” Reddy emphasized.
The raid was carried out by Drugs Inspector P. Pavani from Bhupalpally under the supervision of Assistant Director Dr. G. Rajyalakshmi, Warangal zone. Samples were collected from the site and sent for analysis, while a detailed investigation has been initiated.
The DCA has reiterated that stocking or selling medicines without a license is a criminal offense under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, punishable with up to five years of imprisonment. Officials warned of strict legal action against those violating the law and urged the public to report any such unauthorized medical practices.
