RCB Outclass KKR in IPL 2025 Opener
RCB secures a seven-wicket win over KKR
Kohli and Salt's explosive opening partnership sets the tone
Krunal Pandya and Hazlewood shine with the ball
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) kicked off their IPL 2025 campaign in style with a dominant seven-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens. Chasing 175, RCB made light work of the target, reaching 177/3 in just 16.2 overs, thanks to stellar performances from Virat Kohli and Phil Salt.
Kohli remained unbeaten on 59 off 36 balls, anchoring the chase alongside Salt, who smashed 56 off 31 deliveries. Their aggressive 95-run opening stand put RCB in a commanding position, ensuring a comfortable win.
Earlier, KKR posted 174/8 in 20 overs, riding on a solid 103-run partnership between captain Ajinkya Rahane (56 off 31) and Sunil Narine (44 off 26). However, RCB bowlers Krunal Pandya (3/29) and Josh Hazlewood (2/22) triggered a middle-order collapse, restricting KKR from reaching a bigger total.
Reflecting on the defeat, Rahane admitted that losing wickets at crucial moments cost them a higher total. KKR had aimed for 210-220 but fell short due to the late collapse.
This emphatic win gives RCB a strong start to their season, highlighting their batting firepower and bowling depth.
