Pune Man Regrets Moving to Bengaluru Despite 40% Salary Hike

Moved for a 40% hike, but struggles with Bengaluru’s high costs

Complains about rent, deposits, traffic, and daily expenses

LinkedIn post sparks debate on metro vs. tier-2 city lifestyle

A corporate employee who shifted from Pune to Bengaluru for a lucrative 40% salary hike now regrets his decision, stating that the increased earnings have little impact due to Bengaluru’s high cost of living. His story, shared by a friend in a viral LinkedIn post, has ignited a debate on social media.

The man, who previously earned ₹18 lakh per annum in Pune, moved for a ₹25 LPA offer in Bengaluru. However, he now feels the hike is meaningless. He cited skyrocketing rents, hefty deposits, traffic congestion, and expensive living costs as major concerns. "Pune’s ₹15 vada pav was better than this stressful life," he remarked.

The post received mixed reactions. Some users agreed, stating that Pune offers a better work-life balance with affordability. Others defended Bengaluru, arguing that salary management plays a key role. Some even compared it to Mumbai, stating Bengaluru’s living expenses surpass even India’s financial capital.

This isn’t the first time professionals have regretted relocating to Bengaluru. A similar case from Noida earlier highlighted concerns over the city’s infrastructure and traffic, making many question whether a salary hike alone justifies the move.
