Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held a key meeting with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Members of Parliament (MPs) on Monday to discuss the upcoming 2025-26 annual budget, which is set to be presented in the Delhi Assembly on March 25. The meeting focused on shaping the vision for the capital's development and addressed several critical issues concerning infrastructure, healthcare, and environmental sustainability.
According to officials, suggestions put forth during the meeting included the swift completion of ongoing infrastructure projects, a strong emphasis on cleaning the Yamuna River, expansion of green spaces, and the promotion of electric vehicles. Additionally, the MPs proposed the modernisation of government hospitals and improving overall healthcare facilities in the city.
Among the MPs who participated in the meeting were Ramvir Singh Bidhuri from South Delhi, Bansuri Swaraj from New Delhi, Kamaljeet Sehrawat from West Delhi, and Praveen Khandelwal from Chandni Chowk, alongside other prominent leaders.
CM Rekha Gupta emphasized that the 2025 budget would be more than just a financial document, describing it as a "roadmap for a bright future" for every Delhi resident. She outlined the government's goal to provide modern infrastructure, a clean environment, quality education, better healthcare, job opportunities, and the overall transformation of Delhi into a global city that ensures equal opportunities for all citizens.
Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, after the meeting, suggested that the budget should include provisions for upgrading healthcare infrastructure, prioritizing preventive healthcare, and addressing issues like road improvement, sewer system enhancements, reliable transport services, and sanitation. He also called for a significant reduction in Delhi's average air quality index (AQI) over the next five years and the development of the Yamuna riverfront, following the success of the Sabarmati riverfront project.
The Delhi Assembly’s budget session is scheduled to begin on March 24, with CM Rekha Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, set to present the budget.
