Hyderabad Restaurants to Face Stricter Food Safety Checks
Health department announces major reforms to improve hygiene
Mandatory FSSAI licenses and increased inspections for food businesses
Special mini-labs to test food samples and detect adulteration
The health department has announced a series of strict food safety reforms aimed at improving hygiene standards across restaurants and eateries in Hyderabad and nearby districts. Given that over 60 percent of Telangana’s food businesses operate in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts, officials are implementing rigorous measures to ensure clean and safe food practices.
As part of these reforms, obtaining an FSSAI license will be made mandatory for all restaurants and street vendors. Additionally, the number of food safety inspectors will be increased to conduct frequent hygiene checks, with senior officers from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) overseeing enforcement.
To further strengthen monitoring, the government has planned to set up special mini-labs in each GHMC zone. These labs will facilitate quick testing of food samples from restaurants, detect adulteration in dairy and other products, and enhance regulatory action. GHMC will also assist in identifying suitable locations for these new food testing facilities.
Officials emphasize that these measures will ensure better compliance with food safety regulations and protect public health by preventing unhygienic food practices.
