AICC Meeting Empowers District Congress Presidents in Candidate Selection

AICC empowers District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents with greater authority.

DCC presidents will now play a decisive role in candidate selection for elections.

Mallikarjuna Kharge affirms that DCC decisions will be treated as AICC decisions.

In a significant move to strengthen grassroots leadership, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has decided to grant enhanced powers to District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents. The decision was taken during a wide-ranging internal meeting held under the leadership of AICC president Mallikarjuna Kharge.

As part of the decision, DCC presidents will now have a direct say in the selection of party candidates for upcoming elections. This shift marks a decentralization of authority within the Congress party structure and is aimed at making local leadership more responsible and influential in party strategies.

Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting, Kharge emphasized that the voices of district leaders are crucial for the party’s revival and outreach. “From now on, the decisions made by DCC presidents regarding candidate selection and related matters will be treated as the official stance of the AICC,” he declared, effectively giving them a seat at the national decision-making table.

This move is expected to energize local Congress units across the country and give a morale boost to DCC presidents who have long demanded more autonomy. Party insiders believe this could help bridge the gap between grassroots workers and central leadership, ensuring better coordination during elections.

The Congress leadership believes that empowering district-level presidents will not only speed up organizational decision-making but also ensure that candidates better reflect local aspirations and realities.

This structural shift is being seen as part of the Congress party’s larger strategy to rejuvenate its base, strengthen regional engagement, and rebuild electoral strength ahead of upcoming state and national elections.
