American EV Giant Tesla Set to Enter the Indian Market
The news of Elon Musk's American electric vehicle (EV) giant Tesla entering the Indian market has sparked concerns among several domestic automakers. However, BMW India has expressed complete confidence in its standing, welcoming the competition rather than fearing it.
BMW India Managing Director and CEO Vikram Pawah responded to media queries about Tesla’s India entry, stating that they are not at all worried. In fact, he said Tesla’s presence will help further develop the EV segment in India, which is still in its early stages.
“We are not afraid. Competition drives innovation. We want the EV market to grow in India. It will only develop further when more players are involved,” Pawah commented.
He emphasized that BMW has a strong global presence and is well-positioned in every major market, including India. He noted that BMW’s sales continue to grow every year and the company is confident in its strategy and product lineup.
Pawah also highlighted the growing promise of the EV segment, revealing that the BMW Group sold over 4 lakh electric vehicles globally last year—an increase of 13.5 percent compared to the previous year. He suggested that this upward trend is likely to continue, especially with more companies entering the space and investing in technology and infrastructure.
With Tesla’s impending launch in India, the EV market is expected to become more competitive and dynamic. Industry experts believe this could benefit consumers, improve EV technology adoption, and boost infrastructure development.
While some automakers are taking a cautious approach, BMW appears ready to embrace the challenge, confident in its global experience and growing footprint in the Indian luxury and EV segments.
