Supreme Court Accepts YS Sunitha’s Plea Seeking Bail Cancellation of Uday Kumar

Key Development in YS Viveka Murder Case Trial: SC Issues Notice to Uday Kumar

Bench to hear petition along with earlier bail-related pleas

CJI-led bench questions Uday Kumar’s role in post-murder cover-up

In a significant development in the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder trial, the Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notices to accused Uday Kumar Reddy based on a fresh petition filed by YS Sunitha, daughter of the slain leader. The petition seeks the cancellation of bail granted to Uday Kumar, who is facing serious charges in the case.

Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Khanna, who is heading the bench, questioned Uday Kumar Reddy’s alleged connection to the case, particularly his role in the suspicious circumstances that followed Viveka's death. Responding to this, Sunitha's counsel pointed out that Uday Kumar was among those who initially tried to portray the murder as a natural death due to a heart attack.

Acknowledging the gravity of the claims, the court issued notices to Uday Kumar Reddy and stated that Sunitha’s petition would be clubbed and heard along with previously filed bail cancellation petitions. The next hearing in the case has been adjourned to a later date.

YS Vivekananda Reddy, a senior YSRCP leader and former minister, was murdered at his residence in Pulivendula on March 15, 2019, just before the state assembly elections. While it was first reported as a heart attack, a subsequent post-mortem revealed fatal axe wounds—seven in total—on his body, confirming it was a case of brutal murder.

The case continues to attract intense public and political attention, as it involves deep-rooted family and political angles within the ruling YSRCP.
