Congress Always Stood for Nation-Building, Fought Even the British: Meenakshi Natarajan

AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan emphasizes Congress's historical and national role

Calls for strengthening party ideology and organization from village level

Lauds Telangana Congress govt’s initiatives like caste census and 42% reservation

AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan on Wednesday asserted that the Congress party has always worked with a national vision and played a crucial role in shaping the country—even fighting the British during India’s freedom movement. Addressing a party organizational meeting in Hyderabad, she stressed that the Congress must now focus on rebuilding and promoting its ideology from the grassroots level.

Natarajan urged party leaders and workers to function with renewed dedication and integrity, particularly at the village level, to reconnect with the people. She underlined that organizational strengthening must go hand-in-hand with ideological outreach.

She hailed the Telangana Congress government for setting historic precedents by initiating the caste census, announcing 42 percent reservations for backward and marginalized groups, and progressing toward Scheduled Caste (SC) classification. “These are landmark steps being taken for the first time in the country, and Telangana is setting a national example,” she said.

The AICC leader also praised the state government for launching several welfare and developmental initiatives that are unmatched elsewhere in the country. She noted that the implementation of these programs is evidence of the Congress party's commitment to social justice and inclusive growth.

Natarajan concluded her speech by calling on all party leaders and functionaries to stand united and work toward making the Congress stronger and more rooted among the people, particularly in light of the upcoming elections.
