In a significant step to curb fatalities from two-wheeler accidents, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has announced that all new two-wheelers must be sold with two ISI certified helmets. This decision is aimed at addressing the alarming statistics of over 69,000 two-wheeler accident deaths occurring annually across the country, with nearly 50 percent attributed to the absence of helmets.
The Ministry has issued orders to two-wheeler dealers nationwide, mandating them to provide two helmets with every bike purchase. This measure ensures that both the rider and pillion are equipped with proper safety gear, enhancing overall road safety.
The Two Wheeler Manufacturers Association of India (THMA) has welcomed the government's decision, expressing full support for the initiative. The latest directive is expected to bring about a significant reduction in accident-related fatalities and injuries by promoting responsible and safe riding practices.
