Himachal Agreement Aims to Boost Power Resources, Achieve Green Energy Goals

Telangana signs 520 MW hydel power agreement with Himachal Pradesh

Projects SELI (400 MW) and MAYOR (120 MW) to provide clean, reliable electricity

Telangana GENCO to undertake projects under the nomination process

Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu has described the 520 MW hydel power agreement signed with Himachal Pradesh as a significant step towards expanding power resources and promoting green energy under the Telangana Clean and Green Energy Policy 2025.

The agreement was signed on Saturday in Shimla by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukku and Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, along with state officials. Highlighting the importance of the agreement, the Deputy CM emphasized that Telangana is committed to enhancing power security and providing economically viable, clean, and reliable electricity to its people.

The proposed projects, SELI (400 MW) and MAYOR (120 MW), will be developed through collaboration between Telangana and Himachal Pradesh. Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu noted that hydropower is the most reliable green power source, with lower generation costs compared to thermal power, which continues to rise in expense annually.

He pointed out that Himachal Pradesh's abundance of rivers flowing through the Himalayas allows for continuous hydropower generation for 9 to 10 months each year, unlike South India, where the hydropower generation period is limited.

The Deputy CM hailed the agreement as a prime example of inter-state cooperation in India’s power sector, enhancing Telangana's power generation capacity and effectively utilizing Himachal Pradesh’s hydroelectric resources.

Telangana GENCO will undertake these projects through the nomination process as part of the state government's ongoing efforts to increase its share of green power.

The agreement was attended by Principal Secretary of State Energy Department Sandeep Kumar Sultania, SPDCL CMD Musharraf Farooqui, GENCO Hydel Director Satchidananda, Himachal Pradesh Energy Director Rakesh Prajapati, and Himachal Pradesh Special Secretary Energy Arindam Chowdhury.
