Relief for Posani Krishna Murali in AP High Court
HC orders police not to take further action in Sullurpet case
Court questions invocation of indecent depiction charges
Form 1 notice issued to investigating officer for violating procedure
Actor and political commentator Posani Krishna Murali received temporary relief from the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday in connection with a case registered against him by Sullurpet police. The case, which included charges under Section 111 and other provisions related to the indecent depiction of a woman, came under sharp judicial scrutiny.
Posani had filed a quash petition seeking dismissal of the case, citing misuse of legal provisions and procedural lapses. Hearing the plea, the High Court directed the police not to take any further action against Posani until further orders.
The court expressed serious displeasure over the actions of the investigating officer Murali Krishna, stating that he failed to comply with its earlier directives. The bench raised questions about how sections related to indecent portrayal of women were applied in this case and found the inclusion of such sections questionable.
In a strong move, the court issued a Form 1 notice to the officer and directed him to file a counter reply explaining his conduct. The court has adjourned the next hearing to April 24.
The development marks a significant reprieve for Posani, who has been vocal in both political and public spheres, often attracting legal controversies for his statements.
