HC Orders Regularization Process for 456 Employees at Telangana Grameena Bank
Telangana High Court directs bank to review regularization for 456 workers
Performance assessments and service-based schemes to be developed
Court sets a six-month deadline for the process completion
The Telangana High Court has issued a pivotal ruling in favor of 456 daily wage workers at Telangana Grameena Bank, instructing the bank to review and initiate the regularization process. The workers, including sweepers and messengers, have been employed on a daily wage basis for over 20 years without formal recruitment.
The directive follows a petition from the Telangana Grameena Bank Temporary Employees Association, which challenged the bank’s prior decision to reject the workers' regularization requests. The petitioners argued that the bank had evaded its responsibility by withholding regular pay scales and benefits.
Justice Pulla Karthik, reviewing the case, mandated the bank to assess the employees' performance and establish a fair regularization scheme based on their years of service. The court also clarified that the workers could participate in the office attendant selection process without the need for Employment Exchange recommendations, and relaxed certain recruitment criteria, including age and educational qualifications.
The regularization process will apply only to those still employed by the bank, and the court has set a six-month deadline for completion, offering hope for job security and better compensation for the long-serving workers.
