Jail Officials Deny PSR Anjaneyulu’s Request for Sandhyavandhana Puja
PSR shifted to Vijayawada jail in Jatwani case
Requested permission to perform daily Sandhyavandhana
Officials rejected plea citing jail rules
Former Intelligence Bureau chief PSR Anjaneyulu, who was recently arrested in connection with harassment allegations made by Mumbai actress Jatwani, has been shifted to the Vijayawada district jail. Upon entry, he was assigned prisoner number 7814.
Soon after his transfer, Anjaneyulu made a formal request to the jail authorities to permit him to perform Sandhyavandhana daily and provide the essential puja items required for the ritual. However, his request was turned down by jail officials in adherence to existing prison regulations.
Following this, local prison authorities escalated the matter to the DIG of the Prisons Department. The DIG visited the facility on Wednesday to review the situation personally. While he acknowledged Anjaneyulu's request, he stated that the matter would be brought to the attention of higher officials and that a final decision would be taken after further consultation.
There is a possibility that a clear direction regarding the performance of Sandhyavandhana in jail by PSR Anjaneyulu may be issued today. The case continues to draw attention given the seniority of the accused and the religious sensitivities involved in the request.
