Varun Chakravarthy Breaks Records in T20 Clash Against England
Rajkot, Jan 29: Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy delivered a record-breaking performance in the third T20I against England during the ongoing five-match series. His five-wicket haul for just 24 runs dismantled England’s batting lineup, which had once stood strong at 83/1 before collapsing to 127/8.
Chakravarthy dismissed key England players, including captain Jos Buttler, Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, and Jofra Archer. His remarkable effort set a new record for the most wickets in a bilateral India-England T20 series, surpassing Kuldeep Yadav's 25 wickets in 10 matches.
Since his return to T20 cricket last year, Chakravarthy has claimed 27 wickets in just 10 matches, averaging 10.96 with an economy rate of 7.4. His career-best figures in T20Is stand at 7/17, and he now ranks third among all bowlers for the most wickets in a single bilateral series. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan holds the top spot with 30 wickets, followed by Malaysia’s Syazrul Idrus with 28 wickets.
Despite his outstanding spell, England managed to secure a 26-run victory, marking their first win of the series.
