Arshad Nadeem Declines Neeraj Chopra's Invitation to Bengaluru Javelin Event

Neeraj Chopra invited Pakistani javelin star Arshad Nadeem to SC Classic Javelin event

Nadeem cited scheduling conflict with Asian Athletics Championships training

Event in Bengaluru to feature global stars like Anderson Peters and Thomas Röhler

Pakistani Olympic javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem has respectfully declined an invitation extended by Indian Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra to participate in the inaugural Neeraj Chopra SC Classic Javelin event set to take place in Bengaluru on May 24. Nadeem cited a clash with his preparations for the upcoming Asian Athletics Championships as the reason for his absence.

Speaking to the media, Nadeem clarified, “The NC Classic starts on May 20, but I will be traveling to Korea on May 22 to continue training ahead of the Asian Championships in Gumi from May 27 to 31.” He emphasized that his focus remains on performing well at the continental event and appreciated Chopra’s thoughtful gesture of invitation.

Neeraj Chopra had announced earlier this week that he personally invited Nadeem to the javelin meet and was waiting to hear back after the Pakistani athlete consulted with his coach. “He said he would get back after discussing it. As of now, there’s no confirmation,” Chopra mentioned during a virtual press conference.

Despite Nadeem's absence, the javelin classic is set to feature a stellar lineup including Anderson Peters of Grenada and Thomas Röhler of Germany. The event marks a new chapter in India's athletics scene as Chopra aims to elevate the sport’s profile globally.

It may be recalled that at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Chopra clinched the gold with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters, while Nadeem secured silver with a commendable 89.45 meters.
