Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, made a bold statement asserting that Indian roads will soon be more beautiful and advanced than American roads. Speaking about the critical role infrastructure plays in a nation’s progress, Gadkari emphasized that road development is directly linked to economic growth.
He challenged the common perception that America has good roads because it is wealthy. Quoting former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, he said, “America became rich because of its good roads.” This, Gadkari stated, is a powerful reminder that world-class road infrastructure is foundational to national development.
Gadkari reiterated his commitment to transforming India’s road network. “I am not merely making promises. I will show it through my work,” he asserted. Reflecting on his tenure, he highlighted the extensive progress made under the BJP-led central government over the past 11 years. “After our government came to power, I was given the responsibility of national highways, and since then we have constructed numerous highways and flyovers across the country,” he said.
The Union Minister’s remarks come at a time when India is witnessing a surge in road infrastructure projects, including expressways, green corridors, and strategic highways aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel time across states.
