New Delhi, Feb 1: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman once again drew attention with her saree choice as she presented the Interim Budget 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha.

Staying true to her tradition of wearing handloom sarees, this year’s saree carried special significance as it was gifted to her by Padma Shri awardee Dulari Devi, a renowned Madhubani artist from Bihar.

A Saree with a Story

Ahead of the budget session, Sitharaman met President Droupadi Murmu while carrying the budget documents. She was seen in a beige handwoven saree with a golden border, paired with a red blouse and matching shawl. The saree featured intricate fish motifs, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune in Madhubani art.

During a recent visit to Madhubani, Bihar, Sitharaman met Dulari Devi, who presented her with the handwoven saree and requested her to wear it for the budget presentation. Honoring the artist’s request, Sitharaman gracefully donned the gifted saree, adding a cultural and emotional touch to the budget session.
