Today marks a historic moment for India's space agency, ISRO, as it prepares to launch its 100th mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The mission is scheduled for lift-off at 6:23 am, and it will carry the navigation satellite NVS-02 onboard a Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV).
This mission holds special significance as it is the first under the leadership of ISRO's new Chairman, V Narayanan, who took office on January 13, 2025. The satellite NVS-02, part of the second generation of the Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC), will help provide precise positioning, velocity, and timing services for users in India and regions up to 1,500 km beyond.
The GSLV-F15 rocket, featuring an indigenous Cryogenic upper stage, will carry the 2,250 kg satellite, which is set to play a key role in applications like maritime navigation, precision agriculture, fleet management, and Internet-of-Things (IoT) services.
This launch follows the success of the GSLV-F12 mission in May 2023, which placed the first satellite of the NavIC series, NVS-01, into orbit. With today's mission, ISRO continues to showcase its growing capabilities in space exploration.
