Incident shocks Indian community in the US
In a tragic incident, a 56-year-old Indian man and his 24-year-old daughter were shot dead at a departmental store in Accomack County, Virginia, USA. The shooting occurred on Thursday morning, shortly after the store opened.
Police have arrested 44-year-old George Frazier Devon Wharton, who allegedly opened fire after questioning why the store was closed at night. Pradeep Patel died on the spot, while his daughter Urmi succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
The Patel family, originally from Gujarat’s Mehsana district, had moved to the US six years ago. They worked at the convenience store owned by their relative, Paresh Patel. Wharton has been charged with first-degree murder and multiple felony offenses, including violations of arms laws.
