IMD Issues Heatwave Warning: Scorching Summer Ahead
Temperatures expected to be higher than normal between April and June
Heatwaves likely to last longer than usual across multiple states
Rains predicted in Telangana for the next three days
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of an unusually intense summer this year, with temperatures expected to be higher than normal between April and June. Officials noted that both maximum and minimum temperatures will exceed average levels during this period.
Heatwaves, which usually last between four to seven days, are predicted to persist for longer durations this year—potentially extending by an additional two to four days. The IMD cautioned that states including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh are likely to experience prolonged heatwave conditions.
In Telangana, temperatures are already soaring, with Adilabad recording a high of 41.3 degrees Celsius yesterday, 2.4 degrees above normal.
However, relief may come with rain forecasts for Telangana over the next three days. The IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall across various districts, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour. Hailstorms are also expected in some areas during this period.
