Andhra Pradesh High Court Adjourns Hearing on YS Jagan’s Quash Petition

Amaravati, Jan 30 – The Andhra Pradesh High Court has adjourned the hearing on YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's quash petition seeking the dismissal of a defamation case filed against him. The case was deferred after Minister Ponguru Narayana’s legal counsel requested additional time to submit a counter-response.

During the proceedings, Senior Advocate Siddharth Luthra, representing Ponguru Narayana, requested the court for an extension to file a response. However, Jagan Mohan Reddy’s counsel, former Advocate General Sriram, objected, arguing that multiple adjournments were being sought unnecessarily and urged the court to conduct a regular hearing. Following these arguments, the High Court postponed the case for another three weeks.

The defamation case originated from a news report alleging that former Municipal Administration Minister Ponguru Narayana was involved in modifying the alignment of the Amaravati Inner Ring Road, leading to financial irregularities. Narayana claimed that the publication of these allegations had tarnished his reputation and subsequently filed a defamation suit in the Vijayawada Special Court for People's Representatives.

Despite multiple summonses issued by the lower court for Jagan Mohan Reddy to appear, he failed to attend. In response, Jagan moved the Andhra Pradesh High Court, seeking to have the case quashed. The next hearing is now scheduled in three weeks.
