The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) stepped up its monsoon response after heavy rains lashed the city on Sunday afternoon, deploying machinery and personnel to clear waterlogging in vulnerable areas. India’s latest Earth observation satellite EOS-05 has successfully completed its first orbit-raising manoeuvre, taking it closer to its designated geosynchronous orbit at 85.5° East. The manoeuvre was carried out on September 5 at 8.19 pm, with the satellite’s Liquid Apogee Motor firing for 5,406.4 seconds. Following the operation, EOS-05 is estimated to be in an orbit of 20,000 km by 31,129 km. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said further manoeuvres would be conducted to place the satellite in its operational orbit. Tobacco farmers in Andhra Pradesh are gaining confidence as competition among buyers improves during the ongoing 2025–26 FCV tobacco auctions. Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu said the government is closely monitoring auction centres to protect farmers’ interests. By September 4, auctions had completed 132 days, with 86.59 million kg of FCV tobacco marketed against the permitted crop size of 142 million kg. Vijayawada: Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan has launched an initiative to modernise village tanks across Andhra Pradesh to improve irrigation, conserve water and support rural development. Under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, 105 tanks are being upgraded at a cost of Rs 50 crore.
