Preparations for local body elections in Andhra Pradesh are gaining momentum, with the government working towards completing the process within a limited timeframe. Elections are due for gram panchayats, MPTCs and ZPTCs, along with urban local bodies. Recent reports indicate that the government is aiming to complete the local body election process by the end of October.
The ruling TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance will have to coordinate candidate selection and seat-sharing at the local level. With a large number of candidates involved in local elections, differences among aspirants and rebel candidates could become an important issue.
The YSR Congress Party, which lost heavily in the 2024 Assembly elections, is also preparing for the local polls. Party leaders are looking to retain their organisational presence by winning seats in areas where the party has local support.
The final election schedule, however, is subject to notification by the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission.
