Guntur Mayor’s Resignation Triggers Election Process
Council prepares for an emergency meeting
Resolution for mayoral election to be sent to EC, state government
Election date to be announced after EC approval
With the resignation of the Guntur Mayor, the city council has initiated the process for electing a new mayor. Arrangements are being made for an emergency meeting, which will be conducted under the chairmanship of Deputy Mayor.
The Municipal Commissioner has sought government approval to convene the council meeting, during which a formal resolution for holding the mayoral election will be passed. This resolution will then be sent to the State Government and the Election Commission (EC) for further proceedings.
Once the EC receives the resolution, it is expected to announce the date for the mayoral election. Currently, the alliance holds the majority in the Guntur Council, making the upcoming election a crucial political development.
