Hyderabad, Jan 18 : Former Minister Harish Rao hailed the orders given by the Brijesh Tribunal on the Krishna water distribution as a victory for the KCR government. In a press note released on Friday, Harish Rao emphasized that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) had persistently insisted on the allocation of water based on Section 3 from the outset, marking a significant achievement for the state.

Rao expressed strong support for the interim orders passed by the tribunal, which are pivotal in resolving the ongoing dispute over Krishna water sharing between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He sharply criticized the Congress government for attempting to claim credit for this development, calling it shameful. He pointed out that it was the Congress-led Centre that had introduced the AP Reorganisation Act, specifically Section 89, which he said had severely disadvantaged Telangana in the matter of Krishna waters.

Rao further stressed that it took the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) ten years to rectify the injustice done to Telangana regarding water distribution. He reaffirmed that the BRS government would continue to fight uncompromisingly to ensure a fair share of Krishna river water for the state.

The Brijesh Kumar Tribunal, in its recent order, decided to prioritize discussions on the further terms of reference issued by the central government under Section 3 of the Inter-State Water Disputes Act, 2023. The tribunal will conduct these hearings from February 19th to 21st. It has also announced that the issue of project-wise water allocations will be taken up after determining the share of water allotted to the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh state.

This development marks a crucial step in Telangana’s ongoing struggle for equitable water distribution.
