BJP MP DK Aruna Criticizes Telangana Government’s Decision to Name Palamuru Project After Jaipal Reddy
Hyderabad, January 5 — BJP Member of Parliament DK Aruna has sharply criticized the Telangana government’s decision to name the Palamuru project after the late Union Minister Jaipal Reddy, questioning his contributions to the project and asserting that the government has overlooked the efforts of her father, Chittem Narsi Reddy, in bringing the project to fruition.
In a statement on Friday, Aruna expressed her strong disapproval of the decision, saying, "We condemn the decision to name the Palamuru project after Jaipal Reddy. What did he do for this project?" Aruna suggested that while the government could consider naming projects in Nalgonda district after Jaipal Reddy, it was inappropriate to honor him with the naming of a major irrigation project in Mahabubnagar, where her family’s contributions were pivotal.
Aruna took the opportunity to remind the government of her family’s significant sacrifices, especially that of her late father, Chittem Narsi Reddy, who she claimed fought numerous battles to make the Palamuru region "green." She posed the question, "Has the government forgotten his name?" emphasizing that her father's legacy and tireless work for the welfare of the Mahabubnagar district should not be overlooked.
Addressing her remarks to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Aruna expressed frustration at what she perceived as the CM’s lack of awareness regarding the history and contributions made by her family. “Even if Revanth Reddy doesn’t know history, don’t senior ministers remember my father’s services?” she asked. She further added, "My father and my brother laid down their lives for the welfare of this district."
Her comments reflect a growing discontent within certain quarters of the political landscape regarding the government's decisions on legacy and project recognition. The Palamuru project, a critical irrigation scheme aimed at boosting water supply for agriculture in the region, has been the subject of political contention, with various factions seeking to highlight their respective contributions to its success.
The Telangana government’s move to honor Jaipal Reddy, a prominent leader from the region, has sparked a debate about whose legacy should be associated with major developmental projects in the state. While Reddy’s supporters argue that his name deserves recognition for his political and social contributions, Aruna’s comments highlight a deep-seated frustration with the current political leadership’s approach to regional history and family legacies.
The issue remains a contentious one, with more political commentary and responses likely to unfold in the coming days as both parties continue to express their views on the project’s recognition.
