Effect of Pahalgam Attack: Modi’s Aircraft Avoids Pakistani Airspace on Return to Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi cuts short his Saudi Arabia visit and returns to India

Aircraft takes alternative route over the Arabian Sea, avoiding Pakistani airspace

Decision influenced by the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and security concerns

In response to the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi swiftly returned to India, cutting short his visit to Saudi Arabia. On his return journey from Jeddah to Delhi, his aircraft avoided Pakistani airspace, instead taking a route over the Arabian Sea. This change in route was due to a combination of time-saving considerations and heightened security concerns following the attack that claimed 26 tourist lives.

The terrorist assault in Pahalgam was claimed by the Resistance Front, a faction linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, operating from Pakistan. Modi immediately convened an emergency meeting with key national security officials, including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, to review the situation. Following this, a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting was held, where the Prime Minister strongly condemned the attack, vowing severe action against the perpetrators.
