An unexpected controversy has erupted around Fauji, the much-anticipated film starring Rebel Star Prabhas and directed by Hanu Raghavapudi. Chandra Kumar Bose, the grandson of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has strongly objected to the portrayal of the freedom fighter in the teaser released on Prabhas’ birthday.
He stressed that filmmakers must act responsibly when blending historical figures with fictional narratives. He also demanded a public apology from the film’s makers, alleging that certain scenes undermine Netaji’s stature.
With no response reportedly forthcoming from the film’s team, Chandra Kumar Bose wrote to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. He raised objections to scenes depicting Netaji in conversation with Adolf Hitler and the introduction of fictional characters in a historical context.
In his letter, he reportedly sought an inquiry into how the teaser received censor clearance and urged the authorities to take immediate steps to remove it from social media platforms.
The response from the Union government and the Fauji team remains to be seen.
