The BJP-JD(S)-led NDA alliance won all four seats in the Karnataka Legislative Council elections, dealing a setback to the Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The BJP secured three seats, while its ally JD(S) won one. The Congress failed to win any seat in the elections.
Polling for two graduates’ and two teachers’ constituencies was held on October 23, and the results were declared on October 27. In the Bengaluru Teachers’ constituency, JD(S) candidate A.P. Ranganath defeated sitting Congress MLC Puttanna by 908 votes. Ranganath received 10,810 votes, according to the reported figures.
The BJP also won the remaining three constituencies. Sitting MLC Shashil G. Namoshi retained the North-East Teachers’ seat. K.M. Suresh won the South-East Graduates’ constituency, while S.V. Sankanur secured victory in the West Graduates’ constituency.
The results gave the NDA a clean sweep in these four constituencies and marked a setback for Congress in this electoral contest. However, the outcome does not change the Congress government’s majority in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Since the polls were limited to teachers’ and graduates’ constituencies, the results reflect voting in those specific seats.
