The Telangana government has raised strong objections to the ongoing Polavaram and Banakacharla projects in Andhra Pradesh. Authorities highlighted that Polavaram has led to floods in Bhadradri Kothagudem, particularly during the 2022 floods, when 27 lakh cusecs of water inundated the area. They also pointed out that the Banakacharla project lacks necessary permissions. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed officials to communicate these concerns to Andhra Pradesh's Chief Secretary and, if needed, send letters to the Godavari Board and the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The Telangana government has demanded that construction on Banakacharla be halted until water rights issues are resolved.
