BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri has been nominated as a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) formed to examine the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026. Following his nomination, Arvind thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for giving him the responsibility.

The committee will conduct a detailed examination of the proposed amendments to the FCRA. BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal from Bettiah, Bihar, has been appointed as the chairperson of the committee.

According to an official notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the JPC includes 21 members from the Lok Sabha and four members from the Rajya Sabha. The committee consists of representatives from different political parties and will review the provisions of the proposed legislation.

The FCRA Amendment Bill, 2026, was referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee during the recently concluded Monsoon Session amid strong opposition from several political parties. Congress, Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress leaders raised concerns that the proposed changes could increase government control over organisations receiving foreign contributions.

The government, however, maintained that the amendments aim to strengthen oversight and prevent the misuse of foreign funds. The committee is expected to submit its report before Parliament considers the Bill again during the Winter Session.
