Speculation about Tamil actor Dhanush’s possible entry into politics has been gaining momentum in Kollywood. Recent changes to the name of his fan association have further fuelled rumours about his political ambitions. Now, the Diwali gifts he distributed to women fans have triggered a fresh political controversy in Tamil Nadu.
On Sunday, Dhanush held a large gathering in Chennai with members of the women’s wing of his fan association, Narpani Iyakkam. More than 3,000 women reportedly attended the event. After interacting with fans and posing for group photographs, the actor presented them with specially made silver bowls as Diwali gifts.
The controversy erupted after images of the bowls circulated on social media, showing a lotus symbol associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This led to speculation in political circles about a possible association between Dhanush and the BJP. Congress leaders and some political commentators reportedly offered differing views on the issue.
Representatives of Dhanush’s fan association subsequently clarified that the lotus mark had no political connection. They said it was merely the logo of the jewellery manufacturer that produced the silver items.
The association urged people not to politicise the actor’s Diwali gifts, stressing that the symbol should not be taken as evidence of any political affiliation.
