Nation Mourns the Loss of Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
TPN , New Delhi :President Droupadi Murmu paid her final respects to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at his residence on Friday. “President Droupadi Murmu visited the residence of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, and paid last respects to him. She also offered her condolences to his family,” the President’s Office shared in a post on X.
The British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, also paid tribute to Dr. Singh, hailing him as “a great Prime Minister, Finance Minister, and global statesman.” She acknowledged his bold economic reforms that advanced India’s interests and highlighted his role in stabilizing the global economy during the financial crisis.
Dr. Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha in February this year, representing Rajasthan. Prior to this, he served six terms as a representative of Assam in the Upper House since 1991.
During his farewell in the Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Dr. Singh as an “inspirational example” for his leadership. “Whenever our democracy is discussed, Dr. Manmohan Singh will be remembered as one of its most esteemed contributors,” he said.
Dr. Singh’s legacy as a visionary leader, reformist, and statesman will remain etched in the nation’s history.
