Congress Legislature Party leader and MLA Tharahai Cuthbert was shifted to the front row of the Opposition benches in the Tamil Nadu Assembly amid speculation of differences between the Congress and the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Cuthbert was earlier seated in the section allocated to TVK MLAs. The change came amid growing discussion over the relationship between the two parties.
The development followed remarks by Tamil Nadu Tourism Minister S. Rajesh Kumar, who said Congress ministers would resign if TVK failed to support Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, TVK leaders have projected party chief and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay as a potential Prime Ministerial candidate. BJP spokesperson C.R. Kesavan questioned why the Congress continued to remain part of the TVK-led government despite the differences.
The issue has added fresh attention to the political relationship between the Congress and TVK.
