Jaishankar, Doval brief PM on Pahalgam terror attack and security situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to India late last night, abruptly cancelling his scheduled visit to Saudi Arabia in the wake of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. On landing at the Delhi airport, the Prime Minister immediately held a high-level review meeting on the emerging security situation.

Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were present at the meeting, where they briefed the Prime Minister on the details of the attack, initial investigations, and the current status of counter-terror operations in the region.

Sources indicated that the decision to cancel the foreign visit was taken as a mark of priority to deal with the domestic crisis and to closely monitor the government’s response. The Prime Minister is said to have instructed all relevant agencies to remain on high alert and ensure that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice swiftly.

PM Modi is expected to hold further consultations with top security and intelligence officials and may address the nation or issue a statement in the coming hours.
