Rushikonda Beach Regains Prestigious Blue Flag Certification

Certification reinstated after corrective measures

Enhanced security, waste management, and infrastructure improvements

District Collector to oversee continued compliance

Visakhapatnam’s Rushikonda Beach has regained its prestigious Blue Flag certification after addressing concerns that led to its temporary suspension. The certification, awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), recognizes beaches that meet high environmental, safety, and cleanliness standards.

Dr. Shriji Kurup, National Operator of Blue Flag India, and Ajai Saxena, Jury Member, officially handed over the Blue Flag to Visakhapatnam District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad on Saturday. Officials credited the reinstatement to coordinated efforts under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh, who ensured necessary improvements were made.

Authorities implemented enhanced parking facilities, improved security measures, and effective stray dog management, addressing the key issues identified in a control visit by Blue Flag India representatives on June 29, 2024.

To maintain compliance with Blue Flag standards, the district administration has devised a comprehensive action plan covering safety, environmental management, traffic regulation, solid waste management, and grey water treatment. The Collector will oversee a coordination mechanism to implement these measures within a set timeframe.
