CM Chandrababu Calls for Strict Action Against Online Betting
CM stresses the need for a special law to regulate betting
Calls for technology-driven policing to curb crimes
Highlights rising economic crimes despite overall crime reduction
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has taken a decisive stand against online betting, emphasizing the need for stringent measures to curb its growing influence. He stated that online betting apps are ruining lives, pushing many individuals into financial distress and even suicides. With celebrities, YouTubers, and sportspersons promoting these apps, their reach has expanded dangerously.
In response, Chandrababu Naidu asserted that a special law should be enacted to regulate online betting and ensure its complete prohibition. He stressed that strict enforcement is necessary to prevent further exploitation of vulnerable individuals.
The CM also addressed the broader crime scenario in the state. While conventional crimes have declined, economic offenses have risen. He noted that criminals have become smarter, often evading detection by erasing evidence or shifting blame. Referring to the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case, he pointed out the complexities of modern criminal activities.
To tackle this, he urged the police to leverage technology for crime prevention, forensic evidence collection, and surveillance. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of public cooperation in maintaining law and order, along with vigilance against Maoist activities.
