BCCI fines Ishant Sharma 25% of Match Fee For Code of Conduct Violation

During Sunday’s IPL clash between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Uppal, GT pacer Ishant Sharma found himself in hot water despite his team’s seven-wicket victory. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) slapped a 25 percent match fee fine and added one demerit point to his record for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.

The incident falls under Level 1 of Article 2.2 of the IPL’s code, which pertains to disrespectful behavior towards cricket equipment, clothing, or ground infrastructure. Though exact details of the incident weren’t officially disclosed, the BCCI confirmed that Ishant admitted to the offense, and match referee Javagal Srinath ratified the punishment.

This season hasn’t been kind to the veteran pacer. In the match against SRH, Ishant conceded 53 runs in his four overs without making a breakthrough. Overall in IPL 2025 so far, he has bowled 8 overs across three matches, leaking 107 runs and taking just one wicket, putting him under scrutiny.

While Gujarat Titans continue to perform impressively with three wins in four matches, Ishant’s expensive spells may pose a challenge for the team’s bowling strategy going forward. Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see if the seasoned pacer can bounce back and regain form in the coming fixtures.
