BJP leaders working on selection process
Announcement expected after Parliament session
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to elect a new national president by the end of this month, a process pending for nearly ten months. Initially scheduled for completion by March 15, the election was postponed due to the extended Parliament session.
The BJP has already appointed 13 state presidents following organizational elections in these states. Leaders are expected to announce new state presidents for key states like Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Bengal within the next week before moving to the national leadership selection process.
According to party rules, organizational elections must be completed in at least 50 percent of the states before electing a national president. Additionally, booth, mandal, and district-level elections are prerequisites.
JP Nadda, serving as the national president since 2019, had his term extended until June 2024 due to the Lok Sabha elections. With his role in the Union Cabinet, the BJP aims to conclude the selection process this month. However, choosing a new president involves careful consideration of social and political factors, making it a challenging task for the party’s top leaders.
