The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a paid holiday on November 1 for employees and workers in areas where municipal elections will be held. The Labour Department issued fresh orders after polling was shifted from October 28 to November 1. The holiday covers workers in shops, commercial establishments and government and private sectors in the election areas.
The elections will cover 13 municipal corporations, 87 municipalities and town panchayats. Labour Commissioner Gandham Chandrudu said the decision aims to help every employee exercise their voting rights without obstacles. The orders will be implemented under Section 31(2) of the Andhra Pradesh Shops and Establishments Act, 1988. The earlier order declaring October 28 a holiday has been cancelled. Officials have directed district-level labour authorities to ensure proper implementation of the revised instructions.
