Political activity has intensified in Palnadu district as Andhra Pradesh’s local body elections approach. Karemoon Shaik, the YSRCP candidate for the Chilakaluripet municipal chairperson post, joined the TDP along with her husband, Yusuf Ali, on Sunday night. They joined the alliance in the presence of local MLA and senior TDP leader Prathipati Pullarao, shortly after the State Election Commission released the final candidates’ list on October 25.
Jana Sena candidate Thota Rajarajeswari is contesting for the chairperson post. Karemoon Shaik announced that she would withdraw from the contest and campaign for Rajarajeswari’s victory. She said the welfare initiatives and development works undertaken by the Chandrababu Naidu-led alliance government and MLA Pullarao influenced her decision to change parties.
Thota Rajarajeswari, constituency in-charge Thota Raja Ramesh and other alliance leaders welcomed the couple. The development has changed the political calculations surrounding the Chilakaluripet municipal chairperson election.
