A man was allegedly tied to a scooter, beaten and dragged along a road following a dispute over the payment for a motorcycle in Bhogapuram, Vizianagaram district, on Sunday.
The victim was identified as Yella Rajesh of Ramachandrapet. According to reports, Rajesh had taken a motorcycle from mechanic shed owner Vennu Mahesh for ₹11,500 on August 11, saying he would pay after checking the vehicle’s condition. However, he allegedly continued using the bike without making the payment.
On Saturday night, Mahesh and his friend Lenka Sri Ram allegedly caught Rajesh and took him to the mechanic shed, where he was reportedly kept overnight and tortured.
The next morning, Mahesh and three others allegedly tied Rajesh’s hands and neck with a rope and dragged him using a scooter.
Police arrested five accused and registered a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and other sections.
