Delhi Minister Refutes Arvind Kejriwal's Claims On Power Outage

Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood has strongly refuted claims made by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal regarding power cuts in the Jagatpur Extension area, calling them exaggerated and politically motivated.

Responding to Mr. Kejriwal’s statements, Mr. Sood assured that electricity conditions have improved, with reported outages being minor and short-lived. According to Mr. Sood, data from the past year shows 21,597 power cuts lasting an hour or more, averaging 59 outages per day.

He dismissed Mr. Kejriwal’s claims of uninterrupted power supply over the last decade as misleading, accusing him of spreading false information. Citing data from January 2025, Mr. Sood noted 3,278 planned outages conducted for maintenance purposes.

Highlighting improvements made under his leadership, Mr. Sood mentioned initiatives such as a 24x7 control room, joint monitoring with DISCOMs and DTL, and readiness to procure extra power when needed. He also accused Mr. Kejriwal of lacking administrative experience and failing to provide accurate information.

In the recent Assembly Elections, the AAP, once dominant in Delhi, secured only 22 out of 70 seats, while the BJP, under Rekha Gupta’s leadership, formed the government with 48 seats. The AAP’s credibility was reportedly affected by corruption allegations and the imprisonment of key leaders, including Mr. Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, and Sanjay Singh.
