United States Ambassador Eric Garcetti emphasized the commitment to the safety and well-being of Indian students studying in the US during an interview with PTI at the American Center. In light of recent reports of tragic deaths involving Indian students in the US, Garcetti assured parents that their children are treated as their own when in the US and highlighted the wealth of resources available to support students’ mental health and overall safety.
Garcetti stressed the importance of students familiarizing themselves with safety protocols and resources, including campus security and local law enforcement, to navigate unfamiliar surroundings. Drawing from his own experiences as a student in New York City during the 1980s, he underscored the value of proactive measures and noted the advancements in safety resources since then.
Addressing concerns about the recent incidents, Garcetti emphasized that the US remains a safe country and reiterated the availability of resources to assist students. He encouraged students to reach out for support and highlighted the proactive measures taken by US authorities to ensure student safety, including pre-departure orientation programs and campus safety briefings.
